The first virtual workshop was held this week in the framework of the course on Certification of Competencies and Recognition of Prior Learning, which will take place on the ILO/Cinterfor lifelong learning platform until 23 June, thanks to the support of the Lazos Programme.

The course aims to review the fundamentals, mechanisms and current experiences of training in the region, complementing them with trends such as the certification of migrants and examining the future with e-certificates and micro-certifications. It will take into account the experiences and learnings of leading institutions in the region and examine some experiences from Europe.

62 people from 17 institutions from 14 countries in the region are participating in this training initiative. Through 3 modules they will work on: competence certification systems and the RAP; the challenges of certification today and the future, incorporating current issues such as artificial intelligence and competence profiles; e-certifications and micro-certifications.

The course aims to develop the following skills:

  • To place competency certification and RAP in the framework of qualifications systems and associate it with the formulation of lifelong learning policies.
  • Conceptualise and identify the fundamental elements of a certification system and RAP.
  • Identify the implications of certification and ALSR systems in qualifications systems and their impact as an active labour market policy.
  • Identify the main challenges, advantages and possible policies for the development of certification and RAP systems for migrant populations.
  • Recognise the main advances and future trends in the certification of competences.
Design strategies to promote the use of certification and RAP in response to human talent development demands.

Also, in order to widen participation in these topics, 3 free and open videoconferences will be held:

  • 24 May: The challenges of certification systems in Latin America and the Caribbean. Registration
  • 31 May: Certification and attention to the migrant population. Registration
  • 14 June: The future of certification

This process is facilitated by Fernando Vargas and Ximena Iannino.
